    ToMS ~ April 2024 ~ WebFirst
    Vol. 13 No. 1 (2024)

WebFirst publishing (publishing a paper’s electronic version in advance of the print edition) reduces the time to communicate research to the scientific community, often by many months. In order to keep publication fast, ToMS WebFirst papers are published in template form. This way, readers can access peer reviewed papers well before print publication. These articles are searchable on the journal homepage and they can be cited using their unique DOI. In principle you can simply use the DOI instead of volume and page numbers.

Below are papers that will be published in the next regular (printed) issue.

    ToMS ~ October 2023
    Vol. 12 No. 2 (2023)

We are undoubtedly living in turbulent times. Turbulent in so many different ways. When we talk about science, turbulences are caused by advances in artificial intelligence (AI). In editor's waters, it relates to numerous problems and opportunities which AI can represent. One more challenge imposed on the editors is an increased use of AI tools. These problems are expected to become more frequent and will need to be addressed in future.

In this issue we continue the collaboration with International Maritime Science Conference (https://imsc.pfst.hr/) by including three selected paper. Turbulent times are represented by an ever increasing number of papers dealing with the crisis and crisis management. This is made evident in papers about geopolitical risks on international trade and influence of shipping industry by the war in Ukraine. This issue contains papers in fields of shipbuilding and about human factors in maritime business.

In total, authors of the papers come from nine different countries in three continents. Including additional countries which are not mentioned here, from the first issue of this volume, we have published the authors from a total of fifteen countries from four continents. Comparing this data with the previous volume, that of 2022, we may conclude that we have succeeded in remaining steady and reliable through these times.

The total number of reviewers has amounted to 185 for the entire volume of 2023. They come from forty-six states from five continents, the complete list provided at the end of this issue.

    Vol. 11 No. 2 (2022)

To begin with, since the previous issue, a new SJR was published., thereby rendering ToMS a Q2 (quartile 2) journal in one of the fields. This has resulted in an evident, almost linear increase of CiteScore, as well as an exponential growth of numbers of citations per paper.

In this issue, contributors come from eleven countries, extending all over the globe: Asia, Europe, and Africa. Reviewers of this volume are from 45 countries and six  continents: a total of 184.

In keeping with our tradition to help conferences within our scope, we have included one paper from the 20th International Conference on Transport Science (ICTS 2022), held at Portorož, Slovenia.

  • ToMS 20 Cover

    ToMS ~ October 2021
    Vol. 10 No. 2 (2021)

I am happy to inform you that the 20th issue of our Journal is out, which means we have been sailing the rough scientific publishing seas for a decade. Over the years, the Journal has been constantly upgraded. Our dedication was to internationalise the Journal. To achieve this meant increasing the number of members from different countries in our Editorial and Advisory Boards and more international reviewers, as well as obtaining ever higher-quality and attractive articles. It is worth reminding that the first volume contained 15 papers, and the current volume has 44 published papers.

We are proud to announce a new issue. This issue covers both regular papers and the best papers from the International Conference of Information & Communication Technology 2021 (ICICTM 2021).

  • ToMS 19 Cover

    ToMS ~ April 2021
    Vol. 10 No. 1 (2021)

This issue is the most extensive we’ve had so far. We have one paper from the 19th International Conference on Transport Science ICTS 2020, held in Portorož, Slovenia, on 17-18 September 2020, as well as three papers from the Devport Conference 2020, held in Le Havre, France, on 15-16 October 2020. The papers brought in this issue cover most of the journal’s topics, from ocean engineering, shipbuilding, maritime communications, software and electronics, to maritime logistics and management, including the psychosocial and legal aspects of long-term work onboard ships. We once again take the opportunity to present Croatian cultural heritage by bringing you two poems by late Rina Repanić Gotal, written in the idiom of the Island of Vis. This contribution comes in bilingual form in the inspired translation of Mirna Čudić Žgela, our long-standing associate.

    ToMS ~ October 2020
    Vol. 9 No. 2 (2020)

There has been a lot of discussion about scientific productivity in the time of pandemic. It cannot be generalized, because it depends on the research field. For this issue we have prepared papers on ship’s construction and shipbuilding at the beginning. Then we consider electronic and cyber security aboard. The third group of papers is related to maritime traffic and navigation, followed by a paper about climate changes, maritime logistics and dry ports. Education and terminology is considered next, after which maritime law has been dealt with. Finally, satellite imagery is applied to the microregion of the Cetina River.

    ToMS ~ April 2020
    Vol. 9 No. 1 (2020)

This issue is specially dedicated to the ongoing pandemic, due to which employees in higher education have encountered an unprecedented challenge. However, as life goes on, a new Journal issue is about to be released, demanding even more difficult tasks from the Editorial team. We can say: “Of course we will publish the best submitted papers. Of course it will be on time. Of course we are already working virtually in the Open Journal System (OJS).” However, it is not quite the same.
We already have science, education, institutional, administrative jobs on-line, as well as working at home. Issues are being published, but the following question arises: Is our future virtual?

  • ToMS 16 Cover

    ToMS ~ October 2019
    Vol. 8 No. 2 (2019)

There have been some changes since the previous issue. The number of Advisory Board members increased to include new members from Australia, Germany, Sweden and the USA. Since we already had regional editors on three continents, the journal is now present on all continents, which additionally contributed to its internationalization.

This issue presents researches from Bosnia and Hercegovina, Croatia, India, Malaysia, Poland, South Africa, and Spain – three continents. The papers deal with topics from a variety of scientific areas and fields: marine engineering, naval technology, autonomous ships, hydrographic forensics, with special focus on port management.

  • ToMS 15 Cover

    ToMS ~ April 2019
    Vol. 8 No. 1 (2019)

This issue is the first one to fully implement the so-called Open Journal System. It was by no means an easy thing to achieve: however, we have finally succeeded, primarily due to enormous efforts of our executive editors and the technical staff. This issue brings thirteen papers, the largest number so far. Among the authors, apart from the Croatian ones, this issue boasts a cooperation of as many as twenty-one foreign scientists, coming from four continents. We take it as a good omen for our journal to be recognized and to establish a reputation all over the scientific world. The papers hereby presented deal with topics pertaining to a number of scientific areas and fields, such as marine engineering, navigation, safety systems, hydrography, marine information systems, maritime law, management of marine systems, education, and operation of submarine vessels.

  • ToMS ~ October 2018
